DOES TOURO RECOGNIZE A DEGREE FROM OUTSIDE THE USA?
There are additional requirements for students with degrees from foreign and non-English speaking nations. For a student that holds a degree from an institution outside the United States, transcripts must be evaluated by a recognized service such as American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), Education Credential Evaluators (ECE), or World Education Services (WES) for the equivalency to a U.S. baccalaureate degree and for the grade equivalency of a 2.5 grade point average.
You must be able to speak and write in English.
An interview of the applicant by the head of the department (or the department head’s designee) may be required of any applicant. Decisions regarding qualification will be made by the chief academic officer. Transcripts are not necessary at the time of application. A Bachelors Degree or equivalent with a minimum GPA of 2.5 is required for acceptance into any of our Masters Degree programs and there is a section in the application that asks for this information. However, official transcripts are necessary when you apply for graduation. TUW also accepts students who live outside of the United States. You may live anywhere in the world, as long as you have a computer and access to the internet in order to work on the TUW online learning platform.
CAN I GET A SPECIALTY CERTIFICATE?
Yes. Although TUW is here to help and encourage you to complete your degree program, we understand that the personal and professional lives of adult learners can be complicated. If your time or resources require that you take a shorter path, you can earn a “Certificate of Specialization” from TUW by taking specific courses in one of the degree programs. Please see the Program Information Guides for the details about this option.
HOW DO I RECEIVE AND HAND IN ASSIGNMENTS?
All assignments are available in your online classroom. Each week’s activities and assignments are organized in TUW’s Blackboard Learning Management website. This state-of-the-art virtual classroom environment contains everything you need to be successful week-by-week throughout each term. You can view all your assignments, due dates and grading criteria to help you plan ahead. You can also print your assignments, discuss them with other students and ask for feedback from your instructor. The online course also allows you to submit your assignments in a “drop box” or simply by email attachment. Every TUW professor has expertise in online teaching and learning and is available to help you.
Capstone Course
The Capstone Course is the culmination course in your Master’s degree program and is taken last. Based on an agreement between you and your professor, the Capstone is generally a project reviewed by the primary faculty advisor at the conclusion of your coursework and may serve as a tool for your further research or practice.
HOW DO I INTERACT WITH MY INSTRUCTOR AND FELLOW STUDENTS?
One of the greatest strengths of the TUW learning environment is the high-touch opportunity to discuss issues and gain ideas from your instructors and other students. This is done in many ways including live WebX sessions where you can see and be seen by your instructors and fellow students. You can also share documents and presentation materials in WebX. You will also have a discussion board on Blackboard where you and other students can collaborate and exchange ideas and notes.
WILL I BE MISSING THE GIVE AND TAKE OF A CONVENTIONAL CLASSROOM?
TUW offers a highly personal and interactive learning experience. In fact, many people find their TUW education more interactive and engaging than sitting in a classroom. There is no “back row.” Everyone participates. You will interact with faculty through frequent Blackboard, telephone conference and WebX discussions. You can contact your instructor easily during the course if needed. Written feedback on assignments is another way that faculty members interact with learners. Your academic advisor is available by e-mail and phone throughout your TUW program. Advisors help you plan your program, adjust the plan as needed and assist with any other academic matters. Face-to-face seminars and online get togethers are regularly scheduled on a voluntary basis.
WHAT TIME ARE CLASSES HELD?
You can earn this advanced degree while working full-time. Open to all qualified students, our programs are carefully designed to work well for busy professionals and working adults…like you. Some courses occasionally require you to be online at a specific time but most of the coursework can be completed without being online at the same time as the professor or other students (asynchronously).
You can participate in course assignments at any time of the day or night from wherever you live or work in the world.
Each program is also designed so you have considerable control over the pace with which you complete your degree. If demands at home or at work change your schedule, TUW allows you the flexibility you need to adjust your course load from one academic term to another.
